Ever mindful of the balance of power, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) disconnected power and water services to the servants’ quarters of several sitting as well as former members of Parliament, leaving the defaulting MPs untouched, revealed an RTI query.
Water and electricity connections of 52 residences were severed over a couple of months in 2012. But of these, only six belonged to MPs and the remaining 46 were connections to MPs’ servants’ quarters. "The servants’ quarters occupants are supposed to pay their own bills," said a senior NDMC official.
The civic body, however, could not give the latest information as to who among the defaulters had already paid the dues since the list was drawn up till December 2012.
The NDMC also sent letters to another 55 defaulters, again MPs and ex-MPs, asking them to pay the water and electricity bills for their own residences as well as servants’ quarters.

{{/usCountry}}The RTI also revealed a long list – 51 pages – of outstanding dues of sitting and ex-MPs as on December 2012. The amounts range from as less as Rs. 16 to as much as Rs. 33.12 lakh.
