NDMC rejects traders’ request

This comes as bad news for traders of Pandara Road, Lodhi Colony, Begum Zaidi markets among others. The New Delhi Municipal Council has rejected a proposal for transferring ownership of shops to them.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has rejected a proposal for transferring ownership of shops to them. The traders in nine rehabilitation markets had first raised the demand for ownership rights in 1968 and since then, the NDMC has taken up the issue on its meetings several times.

In its Council meeting on Wednesday, the members rejected the proposal citing the law department opinion that said the land on which these markets are situated is on lease from L&DO and therefore, NDMC itself is a lessee.
