The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society – the governing body of the premier institution supposed to meet annually — met after a gap of nine years.
The meeting on Friday was chaired by the PM Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi also attended the meeting.
The last such meeting took place in 2002 – during the NDA regime, which the then chairman, and PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee was not able to attend.
The meet comes in the backdrop of a tug of war between historians and allegations of mismanagement at the institution which some of the members said, “has ruined heritage symbol and legacy of Pandit Nehru.’
NMML was established after the demise of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and is an autonomous institution under the ministry of culture.
