Neighbour held for raping minor

A 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her neighbour at a village in northwest Delhi, the police said on Saturday. The accused, later identified as one Malkhan Singh, 25, has been arrested.

“The minor was playing outside her house in Samaipur Badli on Friday evening when Singh, a labourer by profession who stays in her neighbourhood, approached her,” said an officer.

Police said Singh lured her to an isolated spot behind his own rented house and forced himself on her. Singh then fled, leaving the girl crying for help.

Police said the minor girl’s mother heard her cries and rushed to locate her. The girl related her ordeal to her mother, who then approached the police. A case of rape was registered as soon as a medical examination of the minor girl confirmed sexual assault.
