Calling the happenings in Nepal its internal development, New Delhi said it hoped the Himalayan Republic would resolve the crisis in a manner that contributes to an early conclusion of the peace process.

“What is happening in Nepal is internal to Nepal. We wish Nepal well in its transition to a fully democratic polity and would hope that the present crisis is resolved in a manner, which contributes to the early conclusion of the peace process,” External Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherjee said in a statement on Monday.
New Delhi, meanwhile, is keeping a close watch on the developments in the neighbouring country. South Block officials rubbished reports that New Delhi had been exerting pressure on the Nepalese government. “We haven’t mounted any pressure for the removal of anyone. The last thing we would have wanted was the unravelling of the government,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
Senior Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai, however, alleged, “India supported the army and the president in their unconstitutional acts against democratic forces.”
“It was an enormous blunder. It is going to cost India all the goodwill it earned by supporting the pro-democracy movement during King Gyanendra’s regime,” he said.
