Two persons, including a Nigerian national, were arrested with 5kg of ephedrine worth R20 lakh on Saturday, police said. Ephedrine is used to manufacture drugs like ‘ice’ and ‘speed’.

Accused Anene Sylvester, 31, and Asif Quraishi, 30, were arrested from Gandhi Vihar on a tip-off, said Sanjay Bhatia, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime).
Sylvester from Nigeria lived at Safdarjung Enclave, while Quraishi belongs to Indore.
“In October last year, Sylvester along with one Supriya had gone to Quraishi and asked him to arrange ephedrine for them. Quraishi used to purchase ephedrine from his contacts in Indore and supplied it to Sylvester for huge money. Quraishi used to get the payment in advance,” Bhatia said.
Police said Sylvester had come to India in 2009 on a business visa. “Sylvester told us that he sent ephedrine to South African countries through African nationals and courier,” Bhatia added.
