The mercury plummeted to 5.2 degree Celsius in Delhi on Saturday, making it the coldest day of this winter so far. The city also witnessed shallow fog in the morning but there were no disruptions in flight or train movement.
After a rather warm beginning, the season is finally getting chilly. The lowest temperature recorded so far was on Thursday with 6.1 degree Celsius. The temperature on Saturday was three degrees below normal. The maximum temperature, however, was one degree above normal, recorded at 23 degree Celsius.
A met department official said that not much change is expected on Sunday.
“All of north India is under a cold wave and apart from Delhi, areas in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP are witnessing below normal temperatures,” said IMD Director B.P. Yadav.
Yadav, however, said that the temperature is not expected to plummet further in the coming days.
“There shouldn’t be too much significant deviation in the temperature before January,” he said.
There was also shallow fog in the morning with a visibility going down to 800 metres at 8 a.m. There were, however, no flight disruptions at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
