No halt zone at Iffco Chowk

After decongesting Shankar Chowk with the help of locals and a new route plan, the Gurgaon traffic police have now shifted their focus on Iffco Chowk, the second busy intersection on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

After decongesting Shankar Chowk with the help of locals and a new route plan, the Gurgaon traffic police have now shifted their focus on Iffco Chowk, the second busy intersection on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. Iffco Chowk is a four-way intersection between MG Road and National Highway-8 and witnesses heavy snarls on a regular basis.

The traffic police have identified the problem areas and are going to make it a zero-tolerance zone from Monday.

“We are going to start a fresh drive from Monday to decongest Iffco Chowk. Buses and three-wheelers don’t park at their designated slots and cause jams. Our volunteers will ensure that commercial vehicles do not hamper traffic movement,” said Bharti Arora, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).

Arora, along with traffic volunteers, visited Iffco Chowk on Thursday to take stock of the present traffic situation.

“We have also asked the authorities concerned to paint the zebra crossing at the intersection. Due to this, commuters do not know where to stop and pedestrians are unable to cross the road,” she added.

Several changes — including correction in the alignment of traffic signals and painting of the zebra crossing — were suggested by the traffic volunteers.

“The intersection is the main access point to Gurgaon from Delhi and witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day, especially during peak hours. The waiting time at the signal exceeds beyond five minutes,” said a senior police official.
