Air India has come to the rescue of cast and crew members of Oscar-nominated short film Kavi, who had no money to buy tickets to fly to Los Angeles for the award function, by providing them complimentary tickets.
"Air India has provided four complimentary tickets to the cast and crew members of Kavi as part of its corporate social responsibility and the team would be flying to New York from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport tonight," an Air India official told PTI.
Kavi is the only Indian film to be nominated in the Best Live Action short film category in the 82nd Annual Academy awards to be held on March 7 In Los Angeles.
The 19-minute film, directed by Gregg Helvey and co-produced by Gunnet Monga and Harish Amin, tells the story of a young boy who is forced to work like a slave in a brick kiln.
Unable to play cricket or go to school, Kavi -- played by 13-year-old Sagar Salunke -- is determined not to let his dream die and tries to escape.
"Its awesome, we are thankful to the government and the Air India CMD Arvind Jadav for helping us in participating in the Oscars, as three days back we did not have tickets nor we had money to buy one for the cast and crew and it was not certain that we would attend or not," Guneet Monga, co-producer of the film, told PTI.
