There would be no sealing of commercial establishments operating from residential areas of Delhi, a Supreme Court’s special bench ordered on Tuesday. It also asked MCD, NDMC and DDA counsels to ensure no unauthorised construction is allowed to come up in their areas. This direction is likely to affect government’s proposal to start regularisation of unauthorised colonies. Also, NDMC’s plan to convert first floor residential flats to commercial establishments in Khan Market would have to stop.

The bench extended supervisory powers to the apex court-appointed monitoring committee that was overseeing the sealing drive in Delhi.
