The Congress on Monday ruled out any alliance with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar even if he snapped ties with the BJP ahead of the assembly elections in the state.
“It’s not that Bihar Chief Minister is completely recluse from the circle of questions. After all, he ran a government with the BJP for close to five years and he will have to answer for that,” Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said.
Earlier Congress general secretary in-charge of Bihar Mukul Wasnik asserted that his party will go it alone in the coming assembly elections.
“Nitish Kumar’s real communal face has been exposed during the BJP’s national executive meeting,” Wasnik told party workers in Kishanganj, Bihar.
Wasnik’s assertion came two days after Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, ruled out any alliance with the JD(U) in the run up to Bihar elections.
Tewari also said the widening rift between the BJP and the JD-U indicated that the NDA was disintegrating.
“NDA as an alliance has ceased to exist. It may exist on paper, but on ground it is almost finished. The rap that Nitish Kumar had given to BJP clearly shows the alliance is over. It's only a matter of time when its remaining allies also leave it and start looking for other alternatives,” he said.
