Coming to the rescue of lakhs of residents, who are yet to receive their Aadhaar Unique Identification (UID) card, the Delhi government has set up an eAadhaar card counter in each of the 13 districts.

Here, people can get a print-out of the eAadhar card from the residential portal of the government.

“A number of people approached us, stating that even though their UID numbers have been generated, they are yet to receive the card. And they need to furnish the card at many places. So we decided to set up these counters, so that people have a print-out of the card, which they can use to avail various services,” said Dharam Pal, secretary (revenue), Delhi government.

Those who do not have any information about the status of their UID application can track its progress by logging on to www.uidai.gov.in. Also, all those who are yet to enrol themselves for a UID card need to do it now.

Delhi government officials said that from April 1, UID cards will be compulsory for accessing and availing any Delhi government service.

Right from getting marriage certificates registered, registering properties, getting a pension card or even an LPG connection, one would require a UID card to ensure their applications are processed.

“We have started an awareness campaign for this purpose too,” said a senior Delhi government official.

With UID being made mandatory, the department has also redesigned its forms to include UID number as a component to the existing forms that are currently used for property, marriage registration and other purposes.
