Notice to civic body, Centre over Jorbagh third floor

The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Centre and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on a petition opposing the civic agency's move to permit construction of the third floor in Jorbagh.

Several residents from the elite colony have approached the apex court stating the permission to allow an additional floor in the area was against building byelaws enforceable in the Lutyens Zone.

Ironically, the council gave permission for the additional floor despite admitting during the annual meeting with Jorbagh Residents' Welfare Association that it did not have enough infrastructure to support any other building in the area.

The petitioners have further criticised the NDMC for adopting a pick and choose policy. As per a recent administrative order, the council has exempted certain areas of Jorbagh from LBZ byelaws where third floor is now allowed.

Drawing similarities with one of its neighbours, Golf Links, the petitioners said NDMC should apply the LBZ uniformly in Jorbagh as well. Infact, they have sought more indulgence since Jorbagh is within the Heritage Zone.
