The CBI’s probe into Uttar Pradesh’s National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam has unearthed a Rs 40 crore-money trail that allegedly leads to former state minister Babu Singh Kushwaha.

The money was apparently routed through some firms based in Kolkata. “There were a series of transactions between the companies allegedly connected with Kushwaha in Uttar Pradesh and Kolkata-based companies that had links with beneficiary NRHM contractors in the scam,” said a CBI official.
Sources said Kushwaha’s relatives and then MLA Ram Prasad Jaiswal were associated with the firms, allegedly set up for routing the money. With the money trail coming to fore, the CBI will be able to connect the bribe money to the accused.
The probe has revealed that the money allegedly collected from various NRHM contractors was delivered in Kolkata through a Kanpur-based accountant. Later, the money was again routed to Uttar Pradesh through fake accounts and shell companies.
