The race for nursery admissions has started gathering momentum. This time, however, it is not the fever to get application forms that has gripped parents, but the drive to get copies of their child’s birth certificate from various civic agencies.
With the application process already underway or soon to start in schools across Delhi and NCR, parents are procuring several copies of their child’s birth certificates from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) office to ensure that their ward is registered in more than one school.

The MCD, too, claims to have witnessed an increase number of applicants for birth certificates over the last one month. The number of applicants has increased by 10-12%.
“Usually, it’s easy to get copies of birth certificates, if parents give us particulars like the child’s date of birth and father’s name and we have a record of the data. It’s time for nursery admissions, so the number of people coming to get copies of birth certificates has increased. For example, if earlier we received an average of around four applicants, now we get an average of around six applicants everyday,” said BK Hazarika, district health officer, MCD.
“Parents must submit the original documents for verification two days before the process starts. After the documents are verified, we return them to parents,” said Jyoti Bose, principal, Springdales School.
