OBC students get another chance

“The OBC admission process is still not over. In all likelihood, there will be a seventh list — as instructed by Delhi University (DU) — because the University is going out of its way to fill seats reserved for OBC candidates. So, admissions for this category will continue till Tuesday (July 19),” said Ujjaini Ray, media coordinator, Lady Sri Ram College.

Most colleges had closed admissions for the general category after the declaration of the fifth cut-off list. However, colleges have still been scrambling to fill all seats allotted to OBC students.

“All courses have been closed for the general category. Philosophy and History have seen some over-admissions, while Economics (Honours) is filled to capacity, since we brought down cut-offs only marginally. However, seats still remain unoccupied for the OBC category and we will await a list by DU again on July 27,” added Ray.

“There are still quite a few seats left to be occupied by OBC candidates. Despite Friday being the second last day of admissions for this category, the turnout was quite low. We will see how the response is on Saturday and then wait for the University’s instructions,” said IS Bakshi, principal, Dyal Singh College.

Colleges in DU’s North Campus — such as Hansraj College, Kirori Mal College and Hindu College — however, remain uncertain about any subsequent lists for OBC admissions. “We closed all options for the general category and brought in a dip of about 10% for OBC students, but there are still a few shortfalls in admissions,” said Anju Srivastava, media coordinator, Hindu College. “However, we are not certain whether or not a seventh list will be brought out, at all,” Srivastava added.
