Off-campus colleges pull in the crowd, for a change

Off-campus colleges manage to pull in quite a crowd on the first day of admissions in DU with B.Com (Pass) turning out to be the most popular among them all, reports Karan Choudhury.

Off-campus colleges managed to pull in quite a crowd on the first day of admissions in Delhi University. All subjects managed to pull in students but B.Com (Pass) turned out to be the most popular among them all.

Earlier most of these colleges could enroll students only after the announcement of the second cutoff list. Other than popular courses like B.Com (Pass and Hons.) most of the seats in their various courses used to remain empty.

Now the scenario seems to be changing. The student response on the first day might not have been overwhelming but for the principals in these colleges, it was more than satisfactory. Dr Vijay Laxmi Pandit, principal of Rajdhani College, said, “We used to get a major chunk of students only after the announcement of the second list. But this year we have managed to start the admission process in almost all our courses. The majority of the students have taken admissions in the B.Com (Hons.) programme. But other courses like Political Science and History are also doing well.”

Another off-campus college happy with first day admission turnout is Bharti College. They managed to enroll 73 students into various courses. Here also B.Com (Pass) courses rule the roost. Dr. Promodini Verma, principal of the college, said, “We keep our cutoffs realistic and after the first list itself we have managed to do quite well. Our BA programme is also filling up fast and we expect this trend to continue.”
