Rakesh, aka Sonu, 30, wanted to take revenge from his enemy, Lal Bahadur, a guard at a farm house in Vasant Kunj, at any cost but didn't want to be convicted for the same as he was well aware that his open rivalry with Bahadur would make him the prime suspect for the law.
To mislead the police Rakesh booked two train tickets for September 6 for a trip to Vaishno Devi with his brother for the day when he had to eliminate his Bahadur.
Acting according to his plan, Rakesh opted out of the trip at the last minute and sent a friend with his brother. After killing Bahadur on the same day, Rakesh immediately boarded a bus for Vaishno Devi thinking that this would mislead the investigators. However, all his efforts were in vain as the police cracked his plan and arrested him from Fatehpur Beri area in South Delhi by Inspector Gagan Bhaskar and his team.
Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south) said Rakesh had a fight with Bahadur and had attempted to kill him in February.
"A case against him in that matter is already pending in court and Rakesh knew that he would definitely be convicted for several years in it. In order to escape from the long conviction he hatched a plan to eliminate Bahadur and settle his grudge before the next court hearing. He executed his plan successfully but our team's meticulous investigation helped us nab him," said Sharma adding they have also recovered the country-made pistol Rakesh had used to kill Bahadur.
