Onion supply, prices improving gradually

Delhi got about 450 tonnes of onions considerably lower than average receipts at around this time of the year but higher than Wednesday’s arrivals.

“The quantity was less but the quality was good. (Hence) the wholesale price ranged between R20 to R50 per kg,” said Brahma Yadav, chairman, Delhi Agriculture Marketing Board.

In most colonies, retail rates ranged between Rs 50 per kg to Rs 55 per kg. As against the open market retail rate, onions were sold at Rs 39 per kg at Mother Dairy’s Safal outlets.

“Five outlets of Nafed and 13 outlets of National Cooperative Consum-ers’ Federation (NCCF) and their 15-odd mobile vans are selling onions at Rs 35 per kg,” said Jayaashree Raghu-raman, Delhi’s commissioner (food and supplies).
