Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said on Friday that India and Pakistan could improve their relations by opening up their borders, promoting trade and cultural relations. He cited the example of European Union to contend that peace was possible among nations that have fought in the past.

He was speaking at the release of a book Kashmiri Cuisine Through The Ages by Sarla Razdan. Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah released the book in the presence of senior journalist MJ Akbar.
“Hatred on both sides must go,” Farooq Abdullah said. “I wish a day comes when I can drive past the border to Pakistan just like I can do in Europe on Friday. Europe has been won after a history of violence. SAARC nations, particularly India and Pakistan, can also do the same,” he added.
