Pakistani troops opened unprovoked fire at an Indian Army post along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, breaking a lull of nearly six months.

Shattering the fragile peace along the LoC for the first time this year, Pakistani troops opened heavy fire on a forward Indian post in Kamalkote area of Uri sector late on Friday night, injuring a jawan. Terming it a ceasefire violation, an army spokesperson said in Srinagar that there was protracted firing from Pakistani troops on the Indian post.
He said Indian troops returned fire with small arms. The Indian Army reported at least 30 incidents of ceasefire violation last year, despite the November 2003 truce. The majority of these took place in June-July when infiltration attempts peak.
Pakistan’s reaction has mostly been to hurl counter-allegations and deny any mischief on the part of its troops.
