The day when the mother of all sporting events kicks off in Beijing, a parallel ‘Olympic Game’ with a difference will be organised in the Capital on Friday.
Continuing their long fight against the Beijing Olympic Games-2008 and the oppression of their people, Tibetan protestors will be organising a day long ‘Colonial Olympic Games-2008’.
Youth Liberation Front of Tibet (YLFT), one of the many organisations fighting for the Tibetan cause is organising this event at a farmhouse in southwest Delhi. Athletes from East Turkistan, Inner Mongolia and Manchuria are taking part in the event.
“We have in all 39 athletes taking part in the Colonial Olympics. But the program is being organised in sheer protest against the Beijing Olympic 2008 and also to show people the violation of human rights in Tibet and everywhere in China,” said Narendra Choudhary, the president of YLFT.
The city also again witnessed mass protests on Thursday by thousands of Tibetans from all over the country.
As many as 3500 people, took part in the opening ceremony of their mass protests. It was started off with a procession from Rajghat till Jantar Mantar. At Jantar Mantar the protestors raised slogans against the Olympic Games and also organised a few events.
“This is the second phase of the Tibetan People’s Mass Protest against the Beijing Olympic Games. The representatives from many states have again come to join in the movement. More than 3,000 people were a part of the protest on Thursday. Our protests will continue till August 24, the day when the games end. In this time we will try to project the atrocities committed by the Chinese government against our people in that country and in Tibet,” said Tenzin, joint secretary Tibetan Youth Congress.
