The Delhi High Court today sought a response from the management of St Stephens college, a premier educational institute, on a petition filed by one of its former Governing body members challenging his termination from the apex body of the college.

The court also restrained S Y Quraishi, a member appointed in the place of petitioner Ajay P Singha, from attending the governing body meeting tomorrow.
Justice Gita Mittal passed the restraint order on Singha's plea and said Quraishi, an election commissioner, will not attend the governing body meeting till the court's further order and fixed the matter for March 2010.
Singha alleged he was removed illegally by Valson Thampu, the college principal, and the Chairman of Supreme council of the college before his tenure for three years was complete and appointed Quraishi in his place.
Singha said he was appointed in September 2008 as a member of the apex body and his tenure should be over in 2011. However, in violation of the college constitution, Sunil Kumar Singh, Chairman has appointed Quraishi.
