"Theek hai?" he asked someone behind the camera, taking a pause after finishing his address.

Within hours, the innocuous query became a top-trending tweet.

News agency ANI, which conducted the recording, quickly corrected the tapes and conceded the error.

In a Twitter post, the agency said: "A question to ANI's cameraman was inadvertently broadcast by some news channels as we fed PM's message. Lapse was rectified."
