Police car meets with accident, 1 killed

A quick spin in a big car ended in tragedy for five Delhi Police personnel just after midnight, on Wednesday.

An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) posted with the VIP Security Wing was killed and four constables were injured when the official Tata Safari they were travelling in smashed into a tree in Chanakyapuri.

The accident took place around 12.20 am near Ashoka Hotel. Police said the deceased, ASI Shiv Ram Meena (36), was driving up from the Chanakyapuri side towards Hotel Ashoka.

Police said Meena was negotiating a curve near Vinay Marg when a motorcyclist swung into his path.

“While trying to save the motorcyclist, Meena lost control and hit a tree. The five were rushed to RML Hospital, where Meena was declared brought dead,” said a senior police officer who is not allowed to speak to the media.

The other constables were identified as Dinesh Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Arvind Kumar and Pradeep Kumar, all of them attached to the VIP Security Wing of Delhi Police.
