A day after she died under mysterious circumstances, the police on Friday ruled out 'any foul play' in 21-year-old Kanika Sharma's death at east Delhi's Vivekananda College.

Sharma, a final year BA student and resident of Jagriti Vihar in Ghaziabad, died mysteriously allegedly after she consumed a cold drink at the college canteen on Thursday morning.

"Her post-mortem examination was conducted but could not ascertain the exact cause of her death. Samples of her viscera have been preserved and sent to the FSL for further examination. The cause of her death will only become clearer after we get the report — probably in around a month," said Prabhakar, DCP (east).

The police, however, said they do not suspect any foul play behind Sharma's death. She was pursuing a degree in the BA program and, according to her family, had low blood pressure.

Sources attributed her death to food poisoning and said the bottle containing the drink, which Kanika had consumed immediately before she started vomiting, had been sent for a forensic examination.

"The student, according to her friends, had complained of severe stomach ache after she consumed the soft drink at her college canteen after attending a morning class around 9 yesterday," said a senior investigating officer.

Meanwhile, students of the college and members of Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) gathered outside the college on Friday morning for a candle light vigil. "We are trying to get access to the post mortem report but haven't got it till now," said DUSU president Ajay Chhikara.
