A 41-year-old Delhi Police inspector died allegedly due to negligence on the part of southeast Delhi’s Apollo Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
“Inspector Dinesh Marciyal had gone to the Delhi High Court for a hearing in a case and was exiting the court premises, when he felt a severe pain shooting through the right side of his chest at 12 pm on Tuesday,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.
Marciyal had been posted as the additional SHO at the Sarita Vihar Police Station.
“Fearing the worst, due to the unbearable pain, the inspector sent a wireless set message, requesting that immediate medical help be sent his way. Luckily, one of his juniors, a sub-inspector, who happened to be there, saw him and rushed to his aid,” the officer said.
“The hospital took him to the emergency ward but instead of running medical tests for a heart condition, they started giving him painkillers. With the painkillers serving no purpose, Marciyal died in the emergency ward,” said the officer.
Police said they had received a written complaint filed by the sub-inspector alleging negligence on the part of the Apollo Hospital administration and were looking into it.
“The patient came to the emergency ward with a complaint of back pain and was immediately attended to by doctors and members of the emergency team. There was no delay in providing treatment to the patient. Unfortunately, he collapsed with a cardiac arrest within 15 minutes of his arrival. All aggressive resuscitative measures were carried out, but he, unfortunately, succumbed to the cardiac arrest,” the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital administration said, in a press statement.
