The Union Cabinet had recently approved the draft bill, which provided for a much centralized grievance redress mechanism, which was rejected by NCPRI.

The campaign, which had conducted grievance redress camps in different parts of the country, wants citizen support center at the block level to facilitate registration and an independent district level appellate mechanism.

It has also sought compensation for delay in entitlements and a mechanism to encourage people to file complaints. The NCPRI wants synergy a between redress grievance law and Right To Information law by inserting a clause in the proposed law making it mandatory for authorities to provide information on complaints filed.

On Saturday, the campaign organized a public forum to seek support from political parties. Prakash Javadekar of BJP support NCPRI’s vision and said his party wanted grievance redress mechanism to be separate from the proposed Lokpal Bill, a view also endorsed by Left parties and Congress MPs.
