For students set to join Ramjas College from this academic session there would be extra help at hand as far as studies go. Apart from the regular hours of teaching by college lecturers, they will also spend extra time under the tutelage of their seniors.

The college is taking its peer tutelage programme very seriously. Seems like DU colleges are finally taking a leaf from US universities.

“That (peer tutelage) is the practice in leading universities the world over. Senior students who are bright academically will be roped into help their juniors with special tutorials. We will involve good students from BA third-year and MA courses. The different departments will identify these peer tutors and also the time and topic these senior students will teach their juniors,” says Rajendra Prasad, principal, Ramjas College.

Prasad feels the exercise will be beneficial not only for juniors, but also the seniors. “This will be a valuable experience for those who want to shift to teaching later, not to mention a confidence boost. This will be over and above regular teaching by the faculty,” he says.

College authorities have decided to open job opportunities in the library, computer centre and the office to full-time students who express the interest to take up these positions. Students in UK and US universities are regularly appointed in the libraries and canteens.
