Posters to track down missing girls

Delhi police have begun posting outside brothels on GB Road photographs of girls reported as missing or kidnapped, the move coming after reports that trafficking of young girls reached alarming levels.

The police have collected the details of 20 missing girls with the help of a non-governmental organisation and displayed the information outside the brothels.

To track down more girls, the police have reached out to NGOs in West Bengal, requesting them for details of girls who are missing from their homes in the state. There, men roam in railway stations and lure minor girls, the police said.

"Our priority is to trace missing girls first and then bust the trafficking racket. In most of the cases we failed to bust the whole racket," a senior police officer said.

The police said they were hoping that those visiting the brothels could identify missing girls with the help of the details pasted outside. The posters will also have the numbers of the police officers to pass on any information.
