Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, in the eye of a controversy over the ex-CVC PJ Thomas appointment issue, appears to have the backing of the Congress high command.

"There is no question of the replacement of Chavan", said a senior leader who declined to be identified in the backdrop of the demand by Maharashtra unit of BJP for the resignation of Chavan in the wake of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh virtually blaming him over the CVC appointment issue.
AICC spokesman Manish Tewari had dismissed suggestions that the Prime Minister was making Chavan a scapegoat and noted that Singh had accepted responsibility.
Chavan had a meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi as also his political secretary Ahmed Patel.
Chavan was made Maharashtra Chief Minister some four months ago replacing Ashok Chavan who had to quit in the wake of the Adarsh Housing Society scandal.
