The Delhi government has decided to make Wazirabad Road — one of the four roads that connect Delhi with Uttar Pradesh — signal-free.

Public works department minister Rajkumar Chauhan said the department has been asked to appoint a consultant and look into the possibility of making the stretch a smooth drive for motorists.

“A few flyovers already exist on the congested intersections of this 10-kilometre long road. I have asked the engineers to close small cuts, remove traffic lights and plan flyovers on big intersections,” Chauhan said.

The minister added that engineers had been told to plan a flyover on the Bhajanpura crossing, which was likely to bear the load of traffic once the Signature Bridge is ready in December 2013.
