Investigators belonging to the intelligence Bureau and a few state anti-terror agencies have been frantically looking for a youth who allegedly masqueraded as a "router repairer" to ferret out crucial information on the Wi-Fi connection subscribed by Kenneth Haywood, a US national who was staying in Navi Mumbai.

"We believe this fake router repairer was sent by Subhan Qureshi to gain the login password and other details of Haywood's main personal computer had accessed the Wi-Fi facility", said a senior Intelligence Bureau officer, who requested anonymity since he is not authorised to talk to media, told HT.

The log-in details could have helped Qureshi use the Wi-Fi facility from away as well as when it was not on, sources said.

The IB officer added, "We suspect that Qureshi has used similar fake router repairers to gain access to details of two other Wi-Fi facilities, belonging to Matunga's Khalsa College and a Chembur-based corporate office, to send his last two e-mails including the one dispatched last Saturday".

Investigators described Qureshi as a maverick techie prone to experimenting with the latest cyber/explosives technology.
