Rains claim four lives

Four people died in heavy rains that lashed the city for the past 48 hours. The dead included three minors in Modi Nagar and Muradnagar areas of the district.

Three children, between 7 and 8 years, drowned after they fell into pits filled with rainwater, officials said.

The incident occurred on Saturday when Vikas Kumar, Bharat Jogi and Lokesh Kumar were playing near Lanka Puri area in Modi Nagar. “The pits were filled with rainwater and the children fell into them,” Gyanendra Singh, Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM), said.

An inquiry into the incident has been initiated, said Singh.

In another incident in Muradnagar, a 30-year-old woman died after her house collapsed due to heavy rains, police officials said.

“Three others from the victim's family were also injured,” said Sudhir Tyagi, Murad Nagar Station Officer.
