In what can be seen as a fresh bone of contention between the Congress and DMK, former telecom minister A Raja rejected the JPC chairman P C Chacko’s offer to send written submission. Accusing the panel of proceeding with the probe on the 2G scam “without regard to fundamental principals of natural justice”, Raja insisted that he should be allowed to personally depose before the panel.

Chacko had earlier maintained that the committee has already started drafting the report on the 2G scam and any fresh deposition is not possible. The Congress fears that Raja may use the opportunity to drag finance minister P Chidambaram into the 2G controversy.
In a letter to Chacko, Raja said: “If given an opportunity to appear before the JPC, I will establish that these allegations are misconceived and that all decisions were taken collectively by the department of telecom with express or tacit consent of other senior functionaries of the government.”
