The matter was raised in the Zero Hour by BJP MP Balbir Punj, who asked the government what was being done to evict about “3000-4000 Myanmar refugees occupying places of historical importance” in Delhi.

Some other members sought to know whether they would be evicted “just because they were Muslims”. Chidambaram said 700 to 800 families from Myanmar living in places such as Hyderabad, Punjab, Jammu, Meerut, Delhi and Khurja had gathered before the UNHRC office in New Delhi on April 7, demanding Refugee Cards.

He added that perhaps they were misguided by some people who told them this would get them facilities available to refugees. The asylum seekers from Myanmar's northern Rakhine state were forced to evacuate the land in front of the 13th century ASI-protected Sultan Garhi tomb on Tuesday.
