The Jhuggi-Jhonpri (JJ) colonies across the national Capital will now have new names without acronym 'JJ' attached with it.
The legislators of Delhi demanded the existing JJ colonies are given a better postal address and the JJ tag is done away with.
While interacting with chief minister Sheila Dikshit on development issues, the legislators — cutting across party lines — said with number of development schemes initiated in such colonies, the JJ Colonies are now developed and JJ (acronym for Jhuggi-Jhonpri) does not sound good with the names of these colonies.
Dikshit interacted with MLAs of 20 Assembly segments falling in Chandni Chowk and South Delhi parliamentary constituencies on Saturday. Chandni Chowk MP Kapil Sibal and South Delhi MP Ramesh Kumar were also present in the interaction. The MLAs also demanded reorganisation of rationing circles as per the new assembly segments and extension Delhi Metro in areas poorly connected with the rest of Delhi.
On the other hand, Sibal stressed upon the need of a long-term plan to systematically relocate wholesale trade, making all hanging electricity wire underground, development of JJ clusters, removing obstacles coming in way of
construction of Azadpur Flyover and making functional development of Shahjahanabad area. Upgradation of schools, construction of pedestrian bridges, maintenance of important gardens and parks, construction of old age homes, new hospitals and dispensaries, and better water supply and sewer facility were some other issues raised by the MLAs.
