Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime) said Sanju Nepali had been evading arrested since he and his associates stabbed 45-year-old Kailash Chand about 27 times for objecting to drinking in a public park in Dwarka's sector one early on May 5.

Nepali was arrested from southwest Delhi's Najafgarh. “On the morning of May 5, Sanju, along with his three accomplices, Rakesh, Sonu Singh and a minor, murdered Chand when he spotted them wandering in a park,” DCP Chand said.

The officer, police said, knew Sanju well as he had dealt with him in previous cases. Fearing that he would get caught and be sent to jail, yet again, Sanju and his associates decided to get him out of their way by stabbing him.

Police were informed about the incident by a local resident, an Indian Army officer walking his dog, after he spotted a 'uniformed man' lying in a pool of blood in the neighbourhood park at 5.40am.

“The HC was stabbed more than 20 times before the gang fled with his loaded service pistol, wireless set, mobile phone and a wallet containing more than Rs 12,000 in cash,” said a senior police officer.

On Monday, police received another tip-off that Sanju was en route Najafgarh to meet his associates and was apprehended there.
