Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Monday after paying tributes to sitting JD(S) member M Rajsekara Murthy, who passed away on Sunday.

In his obituary remarks, chairman Hamid Ansari said in Murthy's death, the country lost a veteran freedom fighter, an able administrator and a distinguished parliamentarian.
88-year old Murthy had represented Karnataka in the Upper House from April 1994 to August 1999, April 2002 to November 2005 and from April 2006 till his demise.
Murthy, who started his legislative career as a member of Karnataka Assembly in 1952, was also a member of Lok Sabha from 1980 to 1984.
He served as a union minister from September 1995 to June 1996 in the United Front government.
A political and social worker, Murthy had participated in the freedom struggle. He was a member of the Karnataka Assembly from 1952 to 1978 and from 1989 to 1994 and minister in the state holding several portfolios.
