The investigating agency has alleged Kumar instigated the mob by saying that they had 72 hours to avenge the death of their Prime Minister.

The chargesheet was filed on January 13 in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja. The chargesheet, which was accessed by HT, says one of the victims Surjeet Singh was dragged out of a gurudwara, a car tyre was hung around his neck, and set ablaze.

Another victim Vakil Singh was also burnt alive by the mob, says the chargesheet.

The CBI alleged that Kumar, in collusion with Bhatia (the chargesheet mentions only one name), SHO Sultanpuri police station and other police officers, led the mob.

Kumar allegedly ordered the SHO to open fire at Sikhs.

HT called up Sajjan Kumar twice, but he declined to comment on the issue.

Three separate FIRs were registered at Sultanpuri police station — one in 1984, 1985 and the last in 1991.

All these FIRs were registered against Kumar.

The CBI said statements recorded by all the eyewitnesses were reliable, and they have found no contradiction.

“The CBI has raised false allegation and implicated Sajjan Kumar in all the FIRs,” said Anil Kumar Sharma, Sajjan Kumar counsel.
