SC to hear TN plea on school curriculum

The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear Jayalalithaa government's appeal challenging a Madras high court order directing the state to continue with implementation of the Tamil Nadu Uniform System of School Education Act.

The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear Jayalalithaa government's appeal challenging a Madras high court order directing the state to continue with implementation of the Tamil Nadu Uniform System of School Education Act.

The apex court agreed to take up the matter on priority after senior counsel PP Rao and state additional advocate general Guru Krishna Kumar submitted the matter needs urgent hearing as it involves academic activities of thousands of children.

The Act introduced in 2010-2011 by the previous DMK government had introduced a common curriculum for school children till Class X.

Prior to introduction of the Act, the state had different curriculum of education like matriculation, state school of Secondary Education, CBSE and Anglo-Indian.
