Schools put off excursions, scale down events

In wake of terror threats and a spate of hoax calls received by schools, extra-curricular activities — especially ones organised on a large scale — have taken a beating.

Several reputed schools have beefed up security at entry gates - metal detectors are the newest measure. They also held meetings to cancel, postpone or change the nature of outdoor activities planned for the students.

Delhi Public School, RK Puram, postponed its trip to Bombay and Goa planned for December till summers. Tagore International School, East of Kailash, cancelled a trip to Ranthambore after a meeting on Thursday.

"Security concern is the obvious reason behind our decision. We don't want to send students for any trip involving long journeys. So instead we'll send them to nearby places. Parents will be informed about the changes very soon," said Suman Nath, principal, Tagore International School, East of Kailash.

Delhi Public School, Dwarka, sent a circular to parents on Wednesday asking for their consent to stall the annual picnic.

At Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, guests invited for the annual fete will be frisked.
