The civic agency plans to distribute these new dustbins to residents in Rohini and Civil Lines where door-to-door segregation of waste will be initiated.

The civic agency plans to begin door-to-door segregation by July 20 in these two areas and it will be extended to other zones by December.

MCD officials said door-to-door segregation would be the one of the major solutions to the city's solid waste management problems.

Once that is done, claimed officials, only 25 per cent of the present waste will find its way to landfill sites.

The rest will be composted, recycled or used for energy generation, MCD said.

However, going by MCD’s own admission, even if all its proposed projects are in place by year-end, it will be able to process only 57.22 pc waste.
