I&B minister Ambika Soni has asked self-regulatory bodies to be more inclusive if the mechanism is to succeed.

“You must increase your membership, we have to be proactive if self-regulation is to succeed. Make it as full as possible,” she said, speaking at conference organised by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI).

“Self regulation is not a mantra that we establish and then forget about it. It is a constantly evolving system in response to the growing aspirations of the consumer or the common man."

Asking the media not to misunderstand PCI chairman Justice Markandey Katju, she said: “Justice Katju has rearticulated issues, initiated a debate… democracy is all about that.”
