Senior citizen robbed in S Delhi

Three robbers, including a woman, entered the house of a senior citizen in posh Greater Kailash-I locality, held her captive and robbed her of cash and valuables, reports HT Correspondent.

Three robbers, including a woman, entered the house of a senior citizen in posh Greater Kailash-I locality on Monday, held her captive and robbed her of cash and valuables, police said.

The robbers also beat up the 80-year-old woman and tied her hands and legs before fleeing from the scene.

The incident occurred around 3 pm at victim Subhadra Sharma’s R Block house in GK I.

Sharma reportedly knew one of the robbers and initially refused to let them in, said a police officer. She relented and allowed them to enter when they asked for water.

Police said Sharma has been living alone in the south Delhi house for the past several years and needed a domestic help.

Six months ago, a security guard, Ramesh Kumar, working in the area had introduced her to a domestic help who left the job after a week.

“One of the robbers had accompanied the security guard to Sharma’s house six months ago. He rang the bell and asked Sharma whether she still needed a domestic help. Sharma identified him and said she was not interested. When she asked them to leave, a woman accompanying the robbers asked for some water,” said a senior police officer.

The robbers then tied her up and dumped her in the kitchen. They even beat her up when she resisted, added the officer.

“They stayed in the house for an hour and ransacked it. They took away Rs 1.5 lakh and jewellery from the house,” the officer said.

Police said that after the robbers fled, Sharma managed to untie herself and went to her first floor neighbours for help. The neighbours then called the police.

A case of robbery has been registered. She was registered with the senior citizen cell of the Delhi Police.

“The lady has given us a detailed description of the robbers and we would arrest them soon,” said Ajay Chaudhry, DCP (southeast).
