Home minister P Chidambaram made it clear on Friday that there was no proposal to rescind or withdraw a 2003 notification preventing Sehajdhari or non-baptised Sikhs from participating in the SGPC elections.

He also asserted that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) polls would be held as per schedule.
Chidambaram said he has been in touch with the Punjab government over the issue.
The home minister's statement in both the houses of parliament came in response to protests by BJP and SAD members over senior advocate Harbhagwan Singh's claim in the Punjab and Haryana high court that the Centre had decided to withdraw the notification dated October 8, 2003.
"Government... wishes to make it clear that there is no proposal to rescind or withdraw the notification. Government will bring the above facts to the notice of the high court," Chidambaram said.
