Delhi will soon be able to provide temporary accommodation to migrant workers engaged in various projects in the Capital.

The leading agency for industrial and infrastructure development here has been tasked with providing dormitories for migrant workers, an official said.
Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation (DSIIDC) chairman-cum-MD Chetan Sanghi said the corporation would build five-bedded and 10-bedded dormitories at Kanjhawala in north Delhi to provide shelter to around 20,000 workers. The dormitories, to be built at R362.05 crore and spread over some 33 acres, would be given on rental basis to construction firms and contractors for industrial workers, workers engaged in construction industry, migrant workers who cannot afford shelter at open market rates and seasonal workers, he said.
“Land has already been allotted to the DSIIDC for construction of housing for people belonging to EWS category,” he said.
Adequate social infrastructure has been planned in the project, which includes infrastructure for vocational training and skill development. The cost of routine maintenance will be met from the recovery of rent, sanghi said.
