Hours before Nawaz Sharif was elected Pakistan’s prime minister, home minister Sushilkumar Shinde lashed out at Pakistani agencies for promoting Jehadi terrorism, and trying to revive Sikh militancy.
Speaking at the conference of chief ministers on internal security, Shinde said Pakistan was producing fake Indian currency notes using processes and raw materials used to print regular currency notes.
The security establishment’s reality check on cross-border terrorism comes in the backdrop of Sharif’s assurance soon after his party won the parliamentary elections that he would not allow any more Kargils and Mumbai-like terror attacks.
A home ministry official suggested Shinde’s remark was a public message to Pakistan on key terror-related concerns that New Delhi would like Sharif to address.
Shinde minced no words to blame Pakistan but gave no credit to Islamabad either for a 20% decline in infiltration this year.
