Teachers feel craming will really not help students prepare for the examination.

They are also losing precious time which they should instead use to study their NCERT books thoroughly.

“The guides available in the market for various subjects are not helpful at all,” said Bharti Sharma, principal of Amity International School, Saket.

“They are not written well, have spelling and grammatical errors and instead of gaining from it students stand to lose whatever they have learnt,” she added.

Sharma feels these kind of books are detrimental to the learning of students and do not serve any real purpose.

“Through its reforms, the CBSE is trying to stress on conceptual understanding of a subject, rather than just mugging it up, which is what these guides encourage,” she added.

Syed Abdullah, student of Modern School, Barakhamba Road, who will be appearing for the class X Boards this year feels the same.

Principal LV Sehgal of Bal Bharti School, Gangaram Marg, feels guide books are standardised and have a set pattern.

“Students who prepare with the help of guide books will fail to answer any question which has been asked a little differently,” said Sehgal.

Sehgal feels that students should study their NCERT books thoroughly and instead of using guide books to prepare for examinations, they should solve the CBSE sample papers.

“The sample papers are designed in such a way that it helps the students prepare for the examination very well,” said Sehgal.

“I feel candidates should time themselves and solve sample papers regularly between 10 am and 1.30 pm, so that when they reach the examination hall they feel at ease,” Sehgal added.
