Sister gifts Faridabad man a new lease of life

A sister gifted her brother a new lease of life on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan by offering him her kidney.
Sriniwas Thakur, a Faridabad-based real estate broker, was suffering from high blood pressure, for which he had been admitted to a Delhi hospital some time ago.
The doctors there discovered that Thakur had suffered a kidney failure and was in need of a donor.
It was then that his sister came forward and offered to donate her kidney to save his life. The family chose Thursday as the day of the transplant.
Asha, Thakur's 34-year-old sister, had to approach state officials for permission for the transplant.
"We received permission from the state government on Saturday. Two days ago, both the patient and the donor were admitted to the hospital," a doctor at a Faridabad hospital said.
Both siblings are doing fine, according to the doctor.
